My daughter is married to a Yankee! Seeing that I have that confession off my chest, I can verify that a lot of the Yankee perceptions are usually that Texas is this broad flat place. (They have no notion what exactly a prairie is!) Texas features some prairie land but is not only a prairie. The Great state has mountains, located in what is called the Big Bend Country given its name from a bend in the Rio Grande River. The Big Bend area is the home of the Davis Mountains. The highest elevation in the Davis Mountains is 8378-foot Mount Livermore, the 5th-highest summit within the state.
There's another area of Texas identified as The Hill Country. The Hill Country features the Austin-San Antonio region and is the home of one of the most eye-catching parts of the state. It was home of Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th President of the United States and his wife Lady Bird.
The center of the hill country is historical Fredericksburg, categorised as the Culinary Capital of the Hill Country, beautiful Fredericksburg affords vacationers a wide range of flavor to tempt almost any palette, from older German favorites similar to sausage and stuffed cabbage, to sushi, Texas delicacies and barbecue; as over 60 restaurants vie for your notice, which include a few attaining country wide popularity.
In addition to delicious cuisines, Fredericksburg provides an Old World knowledge, with enduring structures and ample history to satisfy the most detailed of history buffs; Completely unique shopping is around as well as unique shopping, live music areas, scenic wide range any of your out of doors things to do, such as biking and hiking; and admission to the nation's fastest growing wine location, with seven wineries claiming Gillespie County home. The National Museum of the Pacific War is dedicated to telling the story of the Pacific War in a non-biased approach and features artifacts from both American and Japanese troops, retrieved armed forces equipment, along with a quiet spot to remember men and women who have gone on before us. It is appropriate this national museum is located in Fredericksburg, as this is actually birth place of that war's powerful military officer, Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. In Fredericksburg, you can find many
Texas souvenirs As an aside, I joined the US Navy right after completing high school and worked on the USS Essex, an aircraft carrier, since banished to the scrap heap. In a side garden displayed nicely, I discovered one of the 4 massive propellers that drove the Essex. This brought up lots of fond memories that I told to my wife.
